Kyanite: Metaphysical Meanings
Kyanite is a high-vibrational stone that is known for revitalizing our aura and chakras. It never accumulates or retains negative energy. Rather it radiates powerful energy to reinforce our best qualities while elevating our spirit.
Kyanite metamorphoses and evolves from sedimentary rock. It grows and undergoes its active transformation under high intense pressure and temperature. This vigorous journey gives Kyanite its metaphysical power of endurance. Kyanite is one of the only gemstones that not only cleanses our aura and chakras, but cleanses itself as well.
Kyanite is rarely found in typical jewelry stores. It is considered an exotic gemstone, used mainly in artisan-made jewelry. We love using all the various types of shining Kyanite in our designer jewelry pieces.
Rough Kyanite
The long-bladed layered structure of rough Kyanite usually grows with a glassy, glossy shard appearance. This type of rough Kyanite is usually very soft and is mostly used as a talisman stone, or made into jewelry with wire wrapping.
Black Kyanite Feathered Wings
Some rough Kyanite has a unique splintered texture that easily forms in the
shape of feathered wings. This feathery rough Kyanite is usually shiny black.
Kyanite with Titanium
We sometimes plate black Kyanite with Titanium, a natural Iron from the earth. This gives it a prominent glow of rainbow colors, from peacock blues and greens to bright golden warm tones. We compliment these fantastic colorful feathers with a faceted blue, green or orange Kyanite stone.
A designer jewelry piece in Feathered Kyanite makes a great conversation piece whether it be in a pendant, earrings, or a ring
Mystical Colors of Kyanite
Although the word Kyanite comes from the Greek word Kyanos, meaning ‘blue,’this stone forms in a surprising variety of colors depending on which of its essential component minerals is most prominent. It is a polymorph of Andalusite, a naturally occurring multi-colored gemstone.
Blue or aqua-blue colors in Kyanite are caused by different amounts of iron and titanium, just as in blue Sapphire. This variety is mostly mined in Nepal.
Glossy mint green Kyanite is caused by the presence of chromium and vanadium, the same elements responsible for the hue of green Emerald. Mint green Kyanite is mined in India.
The mineral manganese gives Kyanite a bright orange color. Orange Kyanite is
primarily found in Tanzania.
A time-honored form of Kyanite is shiny Blue Kyanite in a polished cabochon. A mystical, silvery sheen shines through its blue core. This vitreous luster in Kyanite occurs from the silica mineral.
While it can be cut into any shape, its original columnar crystal structure naturally lends itself to be cut into long oval, teardrop, rectangle or long marquis shapes. Cabochon Kyanite is easily identifiable from its glistening inner luster.
Brilliant Faceted Kyanite
Although its three-dimensional geometrical crystalline structure makes it challenging to cut into faceted stones, when Kyanite grows more concentrated and harder it can be cut into facets. It always takes a highly skilled artisan to cut Kyanite so that it will display a bright, even color throughout all its facets.
This beautiful gem-quality Kyanite is sometimes misidentified as blue Sapphire.
We use gem-quality faceted Kyanite in our special designer pieces to accent other stones such as Moonstone, Crystal Quartz, and Laramar. Vivid blue Kyanite brilliantly enunciates the blue flash in Moonstone. The brilliant shine in Kyanite matches the crisp clarity of Clear Crystal Quartz. Blue Kyanite compliments the oceanic blue color of Laramar, These combinations are a winner every time.
